cURRICULUM

IAT was created in 1996 by
Anne Cleary and Denis
Connolly. Their signature
was inspired by McCarthyist
senator George Dondero,
who described avant-gardists
as "international art terrorists".
They started out in
performance and happening before their work turned to
digital video. Despising
all static attitudes to art, IAT
is dedicated to the destruction
of the artistic institution
through merciless and
wanton farce.
They expose the roles played
by institutions in the controll
of the liaisons between art
and public, thus creating
havoc in the artistic world,
with its tranquil galleries
and calm museums.

This serie consists in filming with a hidden camera the inside of museums and western institutions (from the Guggenheim in New York to the National Gallery in Berlin). The behaviour in these museums creates situations bordering on the forbidden. In reply, the museum attendants intervene, and the confrontations are often touched with violence.
